چکیده

The thermal shield (TS) system of ITER plays the role of reducing thermal loads to the cold structures that operate at 4.5 K. This paper presents the results of the detail design of TS, which are the design of joints, design of cooling panels. The results of structural analysis and thermal analysis to support the detail design are also reported. The detailed design of joints is done to satisfy both structural stability of the TS and assembly and manufacturing feasibility. Structural analysis under various design loads was conducted in order to support the new joint design. Detailed design of cooling panels was performed to minimize panel deformation due to tube welding by applying a new tube attachment scheme and cooling line layout. The result of thermal analysis for the new design of cooling line layout is reported in this paper.

UWFDM-827 Overview of the US-ITER Magnet Shield: Concept and Problems

The International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) is designed to operate in two phases; physics and technology. The prime function of the shield is to protect the TF magnets. The predominant radiation limits are the nuclear heat load to the magnet and the end-of-life dose to the electrical insulator. These limits are specified by the magnet designers as 65 kW and 5×109 rads. Detailed ...

UWFDM-838 Three-Dimensional Neutronics Analysis for the US Magnet Shield of ITER

Detailed three-dimensional neutronics calculations have been performed for the U.S. design of the ITER magnet shield. The total nuclear heating in the TF coils is 35 kW in the technology phase and 42 kW in the physics phase. Using 5 cm thick W back shield layers behind the vacuum vessel in locations with limited shielding space results in acceptable local magnet damage levels. The parts of the ...

Update on the status of the ITER ECE diagnostic design

Considerable progress has been made on the design of the ITER electron cyclotron emission (ECE) diagnostic over the past two years. Radial and oblique views are still included in the design in order to measure distortions in the electron momentum distribution, but the oblique view has been redirected to reduce stray millimeter radiation from the electron cyclotron heating system. A major challe...

High Performance Parallel Monte Carlo Transport Computations for ITER Fusion Neutronics Applications

Large scale neutronics calculations for radiation safety and machine reliability are required to support design activities for the ITER fusion reactor which is currently in phase of construction. Its large size and complexity of diagnostics, control and heating systems and ports, and also channel penetrations inside the thick blanket shielding surrounding the 14 MeV D-T neutron source are essen...
